An occupational therapist can help your child make big changes when it comes to developing, modifying, and maintaining their ability to function at work and school. However, for a child to truly succeed they need plenty of support from the people around them. Our parental education services are designed to give you the knowledge you need to fully support your child.

We may work with your child for a few hours a week, but you’re the one who will be by their sides the majority of the time. When you know the best ways to help your child, therapy continues at home. With your help, your child will overcome life’s obstacles and reach new goals much more quickly than if they were on their own.

What Our Parental Education Services Cover

We don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach to parental education because every child is different. That’s why with each new client we create an individualized parental educational package tuned to your child’s needs. Depending on your situation, we’ll help you build the skills and confidence you need to help your child in areas such as:

  • Identifying barriers to self-care, productivity, and leisure and providing guidance towards possible solutions
  • Modifying your environment and using adaptive aides to promote better accessibility, comfort, or productivity
  • Breaking down and modifying tasks to match your child’s skill level while still providing a “just right” amount of challenge
  • Supporting your child in developing fine motor skills, including writing
  • Supporting your child in developing fine motor skills, including writing
  • Navigating the school system to access services
  • Selecting customized seating and mobility options (if necessary)

We will also keep you highly informed about your child’s therapeutic program and educate you on any changes that may occur as your child’s abilities grow and change.

You’re Not Alone

It’s no secret that navigating our health care system is a difficult task in the best of circumstances. When you’re doing so on behalf of your child, it can be emotionally draining. Alongside educating you on how you can help your child succeed, we’re also here to lend our experience in the health care field and help make communication between you and other players in your child’s care as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Our number one goal is to support your child in living a happy, healthy life. Parents are a child’s greatest ally when it comes to overcoming developmental obstacles. We truly hope that by working together we can give your child the support he or she needs to face life with confidence.
